Quote of the Day

I know many of you out there I doing the Black Friday shopping.  Luckily there is nothing we need to buy this Black Friday so I get to sleep in. Since I’m not out and about I think I’m going to catch up on some reading.  Here’s a quote from C.S. Lewis to inspire us all.

Those of us who have been true readers all our life seldom fully realize the enormous extension of our being which we owe to authors. We realize it best when we talk with an unliterary friend. He may be full of goodness and good sense but he inhabits a tiny world. In it, we should be suffocated. The man who is contented to be only himself, and therefore less of a self, is in prison.

What an amazing thought by C.S. Lewis.  He’s basically saying that when we don’t read we limit ourselves and suffocate ourselves.  One of my goals over the next couple of days is to catch up on some reading.  Who’s going to join me?

Mere Christianity

I’m very excited about a new Wednesday study we’re doing here at Crosspoint.  We will be studying through the book Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.  I originally read Mere Christianity about 5 years ago and it really helped me in the formation of my Christian worldview.  C.S. Lewis is a wonderful author and has left us with a huge library of his works.  One of my goals in life is to read through his all of his writings.

Anyone wanting to read along with me and the class I encourage you to do so!  There is a website that has offered the entire book to read online and mp3 audio of the book.  You can visit this site by clicking on this link.  The class meets every night here at Crosspoint at 7pm.  Hope to see you there!

Over the last 6 months I’ve been on a unique spiritual journey.  It all started off by reading some books by an author named Frank Viola.  I started off the Pagan Christianity, then Reimagining Church and lastly Finding Organic Church.  Through his writing I have questioned, researched and searched for truth on almost everything we do as a church in the 21st century.  This process has brought me nothing but closer in my personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Where Frank Viola has some new and interesting views on the church and how it should operate, one thing is for sure, he’s 100% for Jesus Christ.  It is very evident in his writing, that he wants nothing to take place of our Lord Jesus Christ.   This passion can seen most clearly by two works of his and Leonard Sweet both titled Jesus Manifesto. The original essay written by them can be found here.   The second work (title under the same name)  is in book format and was released yesterday on amazon.com.  I personally ordered the book yesterday and UPS says it was delivered today.  I’m very excited about reading this book and will update my blog with a review after I finish reading the book.

If anyone is up for going trough this book with me, please pick up a copy and let me know.  If you can’t pickup a book checkout the original essay and let me know your thoughts. I find that learning is best when done when done together with other Christians.
